We have just completed a most exciting event with our 4th Annual Tejas Art and Book Festival here in Rockdale.
The weather was perfect, the attendance was good and the speakers were great. We had such good volunteers out of our Milano and Rockdale students and that certainly made the day easier. The Car Show was well attended and the entertainment was top notch. Full Story
Jobless rate jumps back to 11.8%
Milam County’s unemployment rate jumped back to its highest level since the peak of layoffs at Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations, hitting 11.8 percent in January, according to numbers released by the Texas Workforce Commission. Full Story

Heine named architecture officer
BRENHAM – Thorndale native Darren Heine was recently elected president of the Brazos Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Brazos).
Other new officers include: Eva Read-Warden, AIA, president elect; Elizabeth Price, AIA, treasurer; Steven Schloss, AIA, secretary; Thomas Upchurch, A I A, TSA director; and JP Grom, AIA past-president. Full Story
Luminant planting 45,000 trees at mine
Luminant is in the process of planting 45,000 trees at the Three Oaks Mine in Lee and Bastrop counties.
It’s part of a system-wide effort to plant 1.2 million new trees in about three months.
Ashley Monts, Luminant spokesperson, said tree-planting machines, capable of planting up to 10,000 seedlings per day, are expected to finish the project this month. Full Story
