Early voting starts Monday for general election ballot
Early voting for the Nov. 4 general election gets under way at four locations in Rockdale and throughout Milam County.
There are, of course, presidential, senatorial, congressional and state legislative elections but there’s also one county-wide race.
Democrat George Tomek and Republican Garry Kelarek are vying for the Precinct 1 county commissioner post being vacated by Democrat Clifford Whiteley.
Tomek led a field of four hopefuls in the March Democratic Primary, then won an April runoff over Phil Van Cleave to win the nomination.
Kelarek was unopposed in the GOP primary.
Early voting locations
Here are early voting hours and locations:
Rockdale—Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Twila Harris’ office, One-Stop Center, 313 North Main—Oct. 20-24 and 27-30, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 12-noon.
Thorndale—Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Gary Northcott’s office, 103 West US 79, Oct. 20-24 and 27-30, 8 a.m. to 12-noon and 1 to 4 p.m.; Oct. 31, 8 a.m. to 12-noon.
Cameron—Milam County Clerk’s office, 107 West Main (across from courthouse), Oct. 20-24 and 27-31, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Buckholts—Pct. 1 Commissioner Clifford Whiteley’s office, Oct. 20-24 and 27-30, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Oct. 31—7 a.m. to 12-noon.
Mail-in ballots
Oct. 28 is the final date to apply for a ballot by mail.
Applications must be mailed to the County Clerk’s office, 107 West Main, Cameron, TX, 76520.
Only persons eligible for a ballot by mail are those age 65 or older, disabled, confined in jail or expected to be absent from the county on Nov. 4.
