Davis
Services for Bobbie Jean Davis, 75, were held Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Pecan Street Church of Christ with Bro. Nugene Knox officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis died Wednesday, June 11, at OU Medical Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK.
She was born March 31, 1933.
She married Andrew Davis on Aug. 5, 1957, and they had three children.
Mrs. Davis attended school at Aycock High School in Rockdale where she graduated salutatorian of her class.
After high school, she attended Southwestern Christian College.
Mrs. Davis was one of the first members at Pecan Street Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school class for many years. She enjoyed fund-raising for the church.
Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Nettie Roberson Sr.; three sisters, Lillie Mae McGee, Bertha Jackson and Sible Enge; and a brother, Lussine Roberson.
Survivors are her husband, Andrew Davis of Temple; two daughters Susan Chapman and Joy Elaine Davis, both of Oklahoma City, OK; a son, Alfred Davis of Temple; a sister, Nettie Patterson of Temple; two brothers, James Thomason of Oklahoma City, OK, and Bob Roberson of Houston; three granddaughters Pamela Davis of Rockdale, Shannon Davis and Tamera Davis, both of Oklahoma City, OK; a grandson, Arick Davis of Oklahoma City, OK; and a great-grandchild, Shamari Davis; also, a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Zarnicki
Services for Lillian E. Holdiness Zarnicki, 90, of Milano will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Roy Dillard of Milano United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Milano Cemetery.
Mrs. Zarnicki died Sunday, June 22, at her home in Milano.
Formerly of Houston, she was a Milano resident for the past 44 years and was born May 24, 1918, in Milano to Harvey and Francis (Morgan) Holdiness.
She married Chester Zarnicki on March 13, 1943, in San Antonio.
Mrs. Zarnicki received her bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University.
She was a school teacher in Pearland, retiring after 45 years.
Mrs. Zarnicki was a member of Milano United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, Edna Matejowski, Maggie Chaney, Ila Mae Lee, Fannie Pierce and Louise Neal.
Survivors are her husband, Chester Zarnicki of Milano; two daughters, Caroline Roessler and husband David of Brazoria, Valerie Taylor of Cedar Park; a sister, Martha Newman of Milano; four grandchildren, David Roessler Jr., Dinah Roessler, Dorie Hammond and husband Troy, Daniel Roessler and wife Dena; and eight great-grandchildren, Kurt, Kyle, Max, Ilsa, Rex, Kirsten, Gracie and Sadie.
Pallbearers will be David Roessler Sr., David Roessler Jr., Daniel Roessler, Mark Newman, Doug Pierce, Mike Grohovsky and Jim Lee.

Curry
Graveside services for Dale Curry, 59, of Thorndale will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Locklin Cemetery near Thorndale.
Mr. Curry died Sunday, June 22, at his home in Thorndale.
Formerly of Florida, he lived in Thorndale for the past 10 years.
He was born March 8, 1949, in Laurel, MD, to Aubrey and Hazel (Wallinger) Curry.
Mr. Curry was a warehouse manager for a produce packing plant in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Curry.
Survivors are a brother, Don Curry of Brandywine, MD, and a sister, Lorraine King of Thorndale; also, a number of nieces and nephews.
Pratt
Services for Minnie L. Pratt, 85, of Port Arthur will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Larry Griffith of First Baptist Church in Thorndale officiating. Burial will be in Salty Cemetery in the Salty community.
Mrs. Pratt died Monday, June 23, in Christus St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur.
She was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Mobile, AL, to Ollie L. and Annie L. (Partin) Golson.
She married Oscar R. Pratt Sr. on Feb. 8, 1942, in Norhill Baptist Church in Houston.
Mrs. Pratt was manager of the drug department in Pleteman’s Grocery Store.
She was a longtime member of Proctor Street Baptist Church in Port Arthur.
Mrs. Pratt was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar R. Pratt Sr., on Jan. 14, 1998; and two brothers, Ollie L. Golson and James E. Golson.
Survivors are two sons, Oscar R. Pratt Jr. and wife Shauna of Lumberton, Richard E. Pratt and wife Tammy of Orange; and two daughters, Louise Adams and husband John of Spring, Elouise Herndon and husband Willie of Tipston; also, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Bratton
Private graveside services for James Morgan “Jim” Bratton, 68, of Lexington were held Monday, June 16, 2008, in Forest Grove Cemetery in Forest Grove.
Mr. Bratton died Saturday, June 14, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
One of five children, he was born April 26, 1940, in Calhoun County, MS, to John and Mozelle (Morgan) Bratton.
He married Beth McCoy on Oct. 27, 1961, in Galveston and they had two children.
Mr. Bratton worked as a heavy equipment operator for Amoco Oil Refinery in Texas City.
He and his wife lived in Santa Fe before moving to Lexington 12 years ago.
Mr. Bratton was preceded in death by a son, James Morgan Bratton Jr.; his parents; and two sisters, Grace Hicks and Johnnie Baker.
Survivors are his wife of 46 years, Beth Bratton of Tanglewood; a daughter, Dena Kocian of Rockdale; and two sisters, Julia Brown of Pontotoc, MS, and Janie Chandler of Calhoun City, MS.
Speas
TYLER—Services for Mary Speas, 75, of Tyler were held Friday, June 20, 2008, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Msgr. Joseph Strickland and Father Augustine Tharappel officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Speas died Monday, June 16, in Tyler.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1932, in Rockdale to the late James Ballard and Mathilda Scheihing Smith.
Mrs. Speas was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she was past president of the Altar Society, a member of the Catholic Daughter’s Association and volunteered at the Cathedral.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William John Speas Jr., in 1981; a son, William John Speas III; and a sister, Dorothy Thompson.
Survivors are four daughters, Paula Butler and husband Holley of Tyler, Christine (Wilson) Hicks and husband Wayne of New Chapel Hill, Reba Hill and husband Randy of Tyler and Reneé Brookins and husband Rusty of Tyler; two sons, Ralph and David Speas of Tyler; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Wilson, Jay Butler, Myranda Hill, Alysia Wilson, William Hill, Molly Hill, Josh Hill and Preston Hill; five great-grandchildren, Jerrod Wilson and Jaycie Wilson, Cailey Wilson-Perkins, Katelyn Hill, Carly Hill; a sister, Joann McDonald of Corpus Christi; and a brother, James Smith of Castroville; also, several nieces and nephews and devoted caregivers, Deanna Holden and Rosemaire Caldwell.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Kirchenwitz
Funeral services for Edell Kirchenwitz, 89, of Rockdale will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at First Christian Church. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the funeral home.
Mr. Kirchenwitz died Monday, June 23, in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
He was born June 20, 1919, in the Bethlehelm community of Milam County to Louis M. and Emma (Brockenbusch) Kirchenwitz.
Mr. Kirchenwitz was a life-long resident of Rockdale and was a Rockdale High School graduate.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during World War II.
Mr. Kirchenwitz retired in 1983 from IGC in Rockdale as a plant operator.
He married his first wife, Roxie Worley, on June 18, 1946, in Austin and they had one son.
His second marriage was to Edwina White on Jan. 29, 2000, in Rockdale.
Mr. Kirchenwitz enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale and served as an elder emetitus, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 414 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite in Austin and Eastern Star, Rockdale Chapter 23.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Roxie Kirchenwitz; a son, Randy Kirchenwitz; and a brother, Elton E. Kirchenwitz.
Survivors are his wife, Edwina Kirchenwitz of Rockdale; a grandson, Eric Kirchenwitz of Austin; a stepson, Ken Frasure of Houston; a stepdaughter, Sandy Wettstein of Rockdale; a sister, Bobbie Lois Melcer of Cleveland; four step-grandchildren, Kimberly Wettstein, Derek Wettstein, Andy Bayley and Chad Bayley; also, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Pallbearers will be Eric Kirchenwitz, elders of First Christian Church and Rockdale Masonic Lodge members.
Beale
CAMERON—Funeral services for Billy Beale, 79, of The Woodlands, formerly of Milam County, were held Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion in Cameron with Rev. Jim Lafferty officiating.
Mr. Beale died Friday, June 20, in Houston.
A retired motor home salesman, he was born July 25, 1928, in Milam County to John W. and Carrie L. (Finch) Beale.
Mr. Beale was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He married Agnes Estelle Burts.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Beale of The Woodlands; a son, Mike Beale and wife Kaaren of Crosby; three brothers, Howard Beale of Houston, John Beale of Abilene and Leon Beale of Kilgore; and three sisters, Mavis Hairston of Cameron, Annie Laura Junek of Buckholts and Frances Atkinson of Titusville, FL.
