Peebles
A memorial service for Sam P. Peebles Jr., 87, of Rockdale was held Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Ann Matthews officiating.
Mr. Peebles died Friday, Sept. 26, at his home.
A Rockdale resident for 62 years, he was born May 27, 1921, in Lexington to Sam P. Peebles Sr. and Mary Ann Johnston.
He married Alma E. “Bootsie” Camp on May 16, 1948, in Austin.
Mr. Peebles graduated from Lexington High School in 1938 and from Baylor University in 1942.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. Mr. Peebles was a lieutenant commander and his last assignment was serving as aide and flag secretary to Rear Admiral C.G. Klein, commander of Mare Island Naval Shipyard in California. He also served two years of sea duty in the invasions of Northwest Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Southern France.
After his discharge in 1946, Mr. Peebles came to Rockdale as partner and manager of a hardware store until 1962 and he was then appointed Postmaster in Rockdale until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Peebles then took up ranching, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of St. Thomas Eipiscopal Church, he served as president of Rockdale Young Men’s Business League and president of Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Peebles was also a member of Rockdale School board, member of Rockdale Rotary Club since 1955 (serving twice as president), was layreader of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was a member of the Rockdale VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bootsie Peebles, on Oct. 31, 1996; a son, Sam Parker Peebles III, on Dec. 29, 1983; and two brothers, Fred Joseph Peebles and E.M. Peebles.
Survivors are a daughter, Pattie Ivey of Austin; a brother, Wyley Peebles of Lexington; and two sisters, Rosa Lewis of LaGrange and Ascenia Underwood of Lexington.

Weise
Services for Garry Weise, 54, of Rockdale will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. James K. Mann of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Weise died Sunday, Sept. 28, in Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
A Rockdale resident for the past 27 years, he was born July 6, 1954, to Emzy and Lillian (Remmert) Weise.
He married Faye Scheer on March 12, 1983, in Cameron.
Mr. Weise was an equipment operator for Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations, retiring after 34 years of service.
He was a graduate of Thorndale High School and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale.
Mr. Weise enjoyed fishing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Weise, and a son, Aron Wayne Gerlock.
Survivors are his wife, Faye Weise of Rockdale; three sons, Donald Ray Gerlock and wife Judy of Missouri, Eric Dean Gerlock and wife Dana of Rockdale, Larry Gene Gerlock of Rockdale; three daughters, Sherri Faye Minor of Rockdale, Janet Lynn Becker of Georgetown, Karen “Cissi” Annette Walker and husband David of Taylor; his father, Emzy Weise of Thorndale; a sister, Patricia Stifflemire of Thorndale; and his mother-in-law, Elvera Scheer of Austin; also, 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Behrend, John Labaj, Bud Orvis, David Loeve, David Scheer and Allan Scheer.
Honorary pallbearer is Harold Scheer.

Mitchell
A memorial service for Helen Mitchell, 88, of Rockdale will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating.
Mrs. Mitchell died Sunday, Sept. 21, in Richards Memorial Hospital.
She was a Rockdale resident from 1951-57 and came back in 1994.
Mrs. Mitchell was born May 18, 1920, in Eliasville to Charles Thomas and Helen (Wright) Hill.
She married Billy S. Mitchell on Jan. 9, 1943, in Grand Prairie.
Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and enjoyed playing canasta with her friends.
She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Billy S. Mitchell of Rockdale.

Ramsey
LEXINGTON—Services for Ray Louis Ramsey Sr., 83, of Lexington were held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Tanglewood Baptist Church with Johnny Menges and Charles Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood.
Mr. Ramsey died Wednesday, Sept. 24, at his home near Lexington.
A Lexington resident for the past 30 years, he was born March 16, 1925, in Waller to Grady Louis and Erma Loraine (Mathis) Ramsey.
He married Dorothy Fay Gates on Feb. 19, 1944, in Corpus Christi.
Mr. Ramsey was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class.
He was a stationary engineer for Schlumberger Oil Services.
Mr. Ramsey was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church and served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Ramsey and Lyndon Ramsey; a brother, Alvis Ramsey; two sisters, Irene Hunold and Ruth Holmes; and two great-grandchildren, Erin Lynn Ramsey and Colton Mauldin.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Ramsey of Lexington; four sons, Ray L. Ramsey Jr. and wife Beverly of Lexington, Doug Ramsey Sr. and wife Donna of Verden, Oklahoma, Brady Ramsey of Lexington, Tim Ramsey Sr. and wife Peg of Lexington; two brothers, Louis Ramsey of Liberty and Ancle Ramsey of Shreveport, Louisiana; and two sisters, Viola Scallons of The Woodlands and Lorene Oakley of Schulenburg; also, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Doug Ramsey Jr., Ray L. Ramsey III, Dennis Ramsey, Arron Ramsey, Charles Thomas Ramsey and Larry Gardner.
Honorary pallbearer was Zachary Ramsey.

Cryer
CAMERON—Kenneth Gordon Cryer, 72, of Kerrville, formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at his residence. Memorial services in Cameron will be announced at a later dare.
Mr. Cryer was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Cameron to James A. and Minta Russell Cryer.
He was a retired school teacher and, after retirement, he worked in real estate and managed a convenience store.
Mr. Cryer was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell Cryer; and two sisters, Nan Cryer and Mildred Cryer Miller.
Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth Cryer of Kerrville; three sons, Troy Wenzel of Houston, Jason Wenzel of Wichita, Kansas, and Eric Byrd of Kerrville; a brother, James A. Cryer of Hico; and nephews and nieces Kathy Ramsey, Russell Cryer, Cliff Cryer, Jenny White, Glen “Bo” Cryer, Janet Sheguit and Randy Miller.

Jaramillo
CAMERON—Funeral services for Felix Jaramillo, 49, of Cameron were held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Theodora Balboa officiating. Burial followed in Hernandez Cemetery.
A prayer service was held Friday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home.
Mr. Jaramillo died Tuesday, Sept. 23, in a Temple hospital.
He was born May 30, 1959, in Cameron to Raymond and Lupe (Balboa) Jaramillo.
Mr. Jaramillo was a forklift driver for Jeld-Wen Door in Temple.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors are his mother, Lupe Jaramillo of Cameron; two brothers, Raymond Jaramillo III and Ray Jaramillo, both of Cameron; and two sisters, Mary Ann Lara and Hope Ramirez, both of Cameron; also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Slack
CAMERON—Funeral services for Addie Jane Slack, 75, of Cameron will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Billy Crow officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.
Visitation was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Slack died Monday, Sept. 29, in a Temple hospital.
She was born Dec. 22, 1932, in Cameron to William and Lucille (Davis) Burkeen.
Mrs. Slack was preceded in death by her husband, David Slack, on Dec. 16, 2007.
Survivors are two sons, Boyd Lee High of Lorena and Royce Slack of Cameron; also, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
