Fight, broken jaw leads to arrest of Rockdale man

 A 19-year-old Rockdale man has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury following a Sunday fight which resulted in a broken jaw.
 Justin Lee Kuenstler remains in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
 Lt. J. D. Newlin said Ofcs. Brandon Tess and Brian Lightfoot investigated the Rice Street incident which resulted in one man’s jaw being broken so badly it had to be wired shut.
 Newlin said one more arrest is anticipated.

Arrests
 Other arrests during the past week included:
 • Ismael Cody Vargas, 23, Cameron, two forgery warrants, including a case where checks were stolen and forged, in custody on $5,000 bond, investigation by Ofc. Stephen Goodrich.
 • Sandra Vargas, 33, Rockdale, theft ($1,500 to $20,000), in custody on $5,000 bond, investigation by Ofc. Mike Hoyt.
 • Steven Allen Hedding, 41, Rockdale, possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine, less than one gram), awaiting magistration, investigation by Ofc. Stephen Goodrich.

Accidents
 Both drivers were checked over at Little River Medical Center-Rockdale after a two-vehicle accident at 5:32 a.m. Sunday at the Mill-Wilcox intersection.
 Drivers were listed as 18-year-old Andrew Kelley and Mark Jackson, 32, both of Rockdale.
 Damages were termed extensive.
 No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident at Sonic Drive-In at 7:50 p.m. Oct. 7, according to police.
 Drivers were listed as Judith Slusher and Theresa Pavlas, both of Rockdale. Damages were termed minor.
 No injuries were reported when a pickup hit a deer on US 79 at 2:01 a.m. Tuesday near Rockdale Ready Mix.
 Driver was listed as Michael McAdams of Rockdale and damages were termed “moderate.”

Citations
 Police said 21 speeding tickets were issued over the past week, along with six for no liability insurance, five for expired registration, four for running a stop sign, three each for no seat belt and driving while license suspended, two each for failure to display license plate and violation of open container law and one each for passing in a no-passing zone, expired MVI sticker and expired driver’s license.
 One citation for theft was issued.

Calls
 Police answered 167 total calls over the past week, and 69 through the 911 system.
