We had a very nice Easter and I hope all of you did too. It was a quiet Easter with just four of us, but we ate like there were 20 of us.

I made the recipe for Carne Adovada that I had in my food column a week or so ago and it was delicious and everyone enjoyed it. Mom made her famous pinto beans and we also had rice. Noelia made homemade tortillas and guacamole. We all had to have naps after eating. I was even too full for Mom’s strawberry pie, but not to worry, because I had some later.

I was very impressed with the Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival that was held on Friday. The RISD ACE Tigers After-School, Girl Scouts and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce are to be commended because the event was hugely successful.

In addition to these three organizations, there were many individuals and businesses who contributed to the event’s success and I’d like to list them here:

A Touch of Elegance Cakes & Catering, Milam County Judge Bill Whitmire, Maria Gonzales, China Buffet, R&B Accessories, The Coop’s Tire Store, Rockdale Country Store, Eagle Automotive, CarQuest, Attorneys of Texas Title, Tripp’s Tavern, Taqueria Las Tortugas.

Also, Cindy Linderman Licensed Family Therapist, Becky’s Sandwiches, Big John’s Automotive, Rockdale Smoke Shop, Pruett Insurance, El Rinconsito Feliz, L&L Food Salvage, Gonzales Mexican Bar & Grill, Crowe Co.

Also, Rockdale Signs & Photography, Cocina Familiar, The Piano Bar, Graze-y Bites & More, Texas Propane, Caffey Corner, Pounders Wrecker Service, Gemini, Roger’s Tax Service, TMD, Nelly Delgadillo.

Also, Rockdale Meat Market, Midway Grocery, Rubio Septic Service, Scott’s Body Shop, Helen’s Snoballs, Dominos Pizza, Brookshire Brothers, Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que, Stoney’s Liquor, Shannon Kornegay, Julie Orton and Kristen Zycha.

Thanks to all of you for making this event successful for the kids!

I got my weekends mixed up and showed up at Veter an’s Park to take pictures of the Rockdale Police Department’s Family Funfest which is actually this coming weekend on Saturday, April 23 from noon to 4 p.m. The RPD has partnered with Aware Central Texas which is a non-profit crime victims’ advocate group who work to provide response and services to victims of violence and trauma. In honor of National Crime Victims Rights Week the two organizations will provide games, food and family fun. Sounds like a fun day to me.

What I actually walked into on Saturday at the park was a gender reveal party for my friend Shellie Whorton Jones’ daughter, Jessie, and her husband Cody. And guess what? It’s a girl! Congratulations to all.

And don’t forget the Dewberry Jam.

Service sorority Alpha Tau Delta will hold the 21st Annual Dewberry Jam on Sunday, May 1 at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

There will be a Fiesta 5K and a kid’s 1K on the streets around the park.

For the kid’s 1K there will be age divisions of five and under, ages 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12. All kids race participants will receive a medal. The top three in each age division, male and female will receive a trophy.

The day will also include a nacho bar, a washer tournament and music.
