Milam Democrats plan candidate gatherings
Milam County Democrats have two meet-the-candidates gatherings scheduled, according to County Chair Richard Stone.
On Friday, the Party’s office in Cameron will be open from 3-6 p.m. to distribute yard signs.
An opportunity to meet local candidates will be held Tuesday Sept. 7 at the Milano Civic Center beginning at 6:30. Full Story
El Camino Real annual meeting set Oct 21st
Apache Pass will be the site of El Camino Real de los Tejas annual meeting and is set for Oct. 21, according to Steven Gonzales, executive director.
The meeting will honor the late Dr. Kathleen Gilmore, who died earlier this year. Dr. Gilmore led the only professional archeological expidition to the site in the 1960s. Full Story
Second county tax hearing ahead Sept. 13
CAMERON—A second public meeting to discuss Milam County’s proposed 60-cent tax rate will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13 in the commissioners courtroom of the Milam County Courthouse.
The meeting will precede a regular session of Milam County Commissioners court.
The rate is down one cent from the current 60-cent rate. Full Story
Museum fund-raiser ahead October 9th
CAMERON—The Milam County Historical Museum will hold its annual fundraiser and membership drive from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 9 at The Mercantile Bistro in Cameron.

Sept. 12 fund raiser to assist Balch family
A fund raiser to assist the Eric Balch family, which lost a son and saw two family members seriously burned in a July 17 fire, is set for Sept. 12 at the Marak Hall, seven miles west of Cameron on FM 2269.
The event includes a barbecue lunch, live auction and fund-raiser in which a gun will be given away. Full Story
Thorndale council sets public tax hearings
THORNDALE—City council members in Thorndale met Monday
MILLER-and set two public hearings
for comment on the proposed city tax rate and budget.
Public hearings are set for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and Sept. 13 at Thorndale City Hall.
“The Sept. 8 meeting will also include a budget hearing,” City Secretary Denise Melde said. Full Story
