Dear editor,
Let me preface this story by saying that I have always believed God places Guardian Angels in our lives to protect and take care of us. Little did I know.
Thirty-seven years ago I took a teaching job at Rock-dale High School. In July of that year, I was called into Raymon Puente’s office (one of my favorite administrators of all time).
I was told that I was the new cheerleader sponsor. I had coached for many years…but, cheerleader sponsor?
Let me stop here to apologize to all my amazing cheerleaders for putting up with my being too demanding and too touchy, also I’d like to include the ninth grade female volleyball and basketball players I coached while at Rockdale. I have looked back on these times with much regret. I was used to coaching boys and was too tough on my female athletes. Please accept my apologies.
Back to my days as cheerleader sponsor. One of my cheerleaders was a sweet, polite, attractive young lady named Courtney (now Paulsen). I could have said the same thing about all my cheerleaders. They were amazing. Can’t believe they put up with me!
Little did I know that Courtney would one day save my life. Courtney is now an incredible physician’s assistant at a Thorn-dale location.
While trying to pay my bill (after seeing Courtney) I passed out. When Courtney checked, I had no pulse. She took quick action, chest compressions, until she could see I had a pulse. One of God’s Guardian Angels (my favorite) saved my life. Need I say more.
