He told me to tell you that

The Blonde walks a lot. On Friday which is typically my day off I sometimes walk with her. We always have to clarify if we are walking (almost running) or strolling. I prefer the latter.

Typically as we prepare to leave the house she will ask me if I have my keys. Maybe we lived in the city for too long but we still lock our doors. The answer is always the same, “Yes,” until last week—last week she didn’t ask and it was the one time I didn’t have my keys.

So, prior to the walk we spent some time breaking into our house (that never feels right does it?). Jennifer retrieved different tools from the tool shed as I tried to use them to break into a window (we keep those locked too). We eventually got in (I hope I’m a better preacher than I am burglar), praise the Lord, and then we went on our run (or walk as she puts it).

As we started Jennifer remarked with excitement and joy that we went on a little adventure and that we made a good team. She equated the lack of keys and breaking in as an adventure. She obviously enjoyed breaking in more than I did but she was right, we are a good team. God was good to put us together 35 years ago. I love my wife and I love her a lot.

I feel old and I am a tired, cynical preacher and I don’t do adventure or excitement very well and I’m not even sure if I know how to have fun anymore. I’m more Eeyore than Pollyanna as a whole so this was out of my comfort zone.

We started out a month or so ago on a road trip to Kansas and we got as far as East Texas —see what I mean?

The one good thing about the “adventure” was that I was with the one I love the most.

Jesus has sent all of us who claim Him as Lord and Savior on an adventure (go, tell, teach, baptize). We call it the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). He should be the one we love the most (Matthew 22:37) and at the end of Matthew 20 He said He will always be with us as we go and do His will.

He made another promise in Philippians 4:13 that we can do all things (think adventure) through Him who gives us strength. What I mean to say is you and Jesus make a good team and there’s nothing you can’t do together.

He told me to tell you that.
