When I heard that the Christmas Arts and Craf ts Market had been canceled because of the awful weather (it’s rescheduled for Saturday) I thought now is my chance to have a Saturday of doing absolutely nothing because Wynton had already volunteered to take the other photos that day.
A whole Saturday off with no pictures or events to attend. That doesn’t happen very often, and I was really looking forward to it. And I was a potato all day long.
Then I felt bad about it because Mom and Dad were busy bees taking Thanksgiving meals around to all the people in town which they do every year. But I didn’t feel bad for very long because it is so hard for me to take a vacation.
And, except for coming to the office to feed Mavis and write the story about the city’s huge water pipe replacement project, I was a potato all day long and I enjoyed every second of it.
However, I am looking forward to all the events this weekend. Breakfast with Santa starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Patterson Center and I got some cute pictures last year. Our Rockdale McDonald’s will be serving up pancakes, milk and orange juice like they do every year, and there’s also arts and crafts projects for the kids. Plus, it’s only $5, and like the name implies, Santa will be there for photos.
The Christmas Craft Market will be held at Wolf Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with arts, crafts and lots of food. There will also be beer and wine vendors and Santa.
The lighted Christmas Parade will be start at 6 p.m. Saturday at Fair Park going down US 79 and ending at Wolf Park. Prizes will be awarded in five categories.
The Snug will also be having their first brunch on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and I sure miss having brunch since I moved from Houston. Looking forward to that as well. I have heard they will be serving mimosas, too.
And all over town stores will be having all kinds of good deals. So get ready for a full day fun this Saturday and get all of your Christmas shopping done. —kwc— Also on Saturday is the 17th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run so don’t forget to go by The Ranch and drop off toys or a monetary donation. The Bad to the Bone Riders are a great bunch of folks who hold this event every year so that all of the kids in Milam County have a nice Christmas.
The money they raise is donated to The Milam County Child Protective Services, Milam County Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and the Rockdale Christmas Roundup.
This group has raised over $100,000 over the years and donates all of the money to the groups listed above.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the first bikes will leave at 11 a.m. with stops at the Rockdale VFW Post 6525, Cliff’s Tavern, Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, Nat’s in Milano and then back to The Ranch.
Once back there will be a meal provided by Rockdale Brookshire Brothers and prepared by nice folks at Brady’s Pest Control. There are all kinds of drawings and prizes.
