FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE
Went to the opening of the new dog park on Saturday. I was really surprised at how many people were there right at 10 a.m. when it opened. I’m glad to see our community supporting all the hard work some very nice people have done.
I hesitated to go into the area where the dogs up for adoption are kept, fearing I’d have to bring one or two home. My “roommates” would have pitched a hissy fit. But I made it inside and back out and even got some nice photos.
Janiece Armagost is our resident animal control officer, and we couldn’t ask for a better one. She loves these animals so much. The city’s main goal is to get these dogs back to their owners as quickly as possible.
The Rockdale PAWS organization works to socialize, care for and find foster homes or forever homes for the dogs picked up by animal control. These two organizations work hand in hand to make sure all of the dogs whose homes can’t be found are able to live a good life.
Both these organizations need help to keep on carrying on the work they do. And both organizations have made it easy for everyone to donate the items they need.
I am providing a list of things they need in this space. Donations are accepted by Dan Ratliff at Rainbow Courts Motel, or you can donate at the Rockdale Animal Shelter located at 290 Beverly Street.
In addition to needing people to volunteer for various tasks, the items needed include: paper towels, bath towels, blankets, Swiffer Wet pads, large black 30 gallon trash bags, disposable puppy training pads, cleaning supplies, washing machine detergent, Dawn dish-washing liquid, sponges, dog toys, and dog food, of course.
Monetary donations are always welcome and so easy to make. All you have to do is go to Rockdale Federal Credit Union and tell one of the lovely ladies you’d like to make a donation to the PAWS account. You can also mail a donation to Dan and Joan Ratliff at Rainbow Courts, 915 E. Cameron. Or PAWS has a PO Box 1453 in Rock-dale. How simple is that?
Now surely we all have some of these items around our houses and there are plenty of dogs counting on us to take care of them. I saw lots of friendly dogs today that are in need of good forever homes.
