A good guy celebrates his third anniversary
Body

Brett Boren celebrated the third anniversary of his Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que in grand style on Sunday with BrettFest, a gathering of over 40 barbecue joints from across our state as well as three others and one from Mexico. He also managed to sell out about half of the hotel rooms in Rockdale.

Texas Monthly magazine just came out with their Top 50 Barbecue Joints and 21 of them were there.

Almost 600 people showed up to help him celebrate and enjoy all the vendors and live music.

The Grand Marshals were Kerry Bexley and Tootsie Tomanetz, the owner and pit boss at Snow’s BBQ in Lexington. Snow’s was voted best barbecue in Texas by Texas Monthly in 2008 and 2017.

Since he arrived in Rockdale three years ago Brett has done some very nice things for our town. During our snowy week earlier this year he fed all kinds of people who were unable to get out of their houses.

When little Alex Sandoval got sick with brain cancer he raised money by holding a highly-successful fish fry for the family’s medical bills.

That’s just the kind of guy he is.

And now he’s on the city council and maybe one day we’ll be calling him Mayor Boren? Time will tell.

Congratulations on your three-year anniversary from The Reporter Gang. We are glad you decided to make Rockdale your home.—K.W.C.
