FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE

Iam looking forward to all of the Christmas activities this Saturday. I haven’t seen the nighttime Christmas parade so this year will be m| first one/ even though I think it has been a nighttime parade for over 10 years.

Activities start early in the morning with Breakfast with Santa at The Patterson Center from 7:30-10 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Rockdale Fhamber of Fommerce and McDonald’s will provide pan-canes miln and juice1 Where will also be lots of arts and craft activities for the kiddies in addition to meeting Santa. Sounds like fun to me.

Tickets are only $5 and you can purchase them at the Fhamber office or Uocndale Signs and Photography.

Oater/ Vanta will be moving down to our beautiful I&GN Depot where he and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos with the kids from 3-5 p.m.

There will be someone reading Christmas stories in the caboose/ the model trains will be on display in the baggage room/ and blacnsmith demonstrations in the blacksmith shop.

Vausage wraps coonies and hot chocolate will also be available. The event is free for everyone. All donations and food sales will directly support the Rockdale Historical Vociet|/ which enables them to keep doing their good works.

The Holiday Float Parade and vendor fair will be from 7-< p1m1 at olf arn/ and all non-profit outh and civic organi ation Úoats will compete for a $250 people’s choice award sponsored by the good folks at Miller-Starnes Chevrolet-Buick.

-kwc-One of the things I have wanted to do since my return to Rockdale was to get involved in some civic organi-}ations1 he first one Îve chosen is the Rockdale Downtown Association.

I’ve only been to two meetings so far so I may not be the best person to talk about this organi}ation but that did not stop them from electing me Vice President at my second meeting so I’m going to talk about it anyway.

The group was founded in 2006. And their mission statement is as follows: to foster/ promote/ maintain and encourage the civic/ social commercial touristic and economic welfare of downtown Rockdale by; stimulating communit pride/ facilitating civic action and municipal improvements within the Downtown District and to provide guidance and education to encourage greater patronage through various public activities/ b| developing programs projects and services that preserve architectural character/ cultural heritage and economic vitality in order to revitalize downtown Rockdale.

My business is downtown so it sounded line a good fit for me.

The group is made up of “seasoned” Rockdalians as well as Ë|oung folns which is how Collier Perry referred to me/ bless him1

There are several actual young people as well though. A nice mix.

The RDA is responsible for the Fall Music Festival as well as many other educational and economic activities.

If you agree with the statement above |ou have a business or work in the downtown area and are interested in the revitali}ation and beautification of our downtown district |ou should join this group We are always looking for new members with new ideas about how to make our downtown shine.
