We have t a lked about this before but happy places matter. I have several happy places. For the most part any place the Blonde is present is a happy place for me. I love to be around the Blonde. The golf course, the tennis courts, even the treadmill has become one of my happy places. TCU, Tiger Stadium and any place there is some blue and gold is a happy place. Wherever they serve coffee, wherever our baby girl Klaire is (and now her new husband, yikes!) can be one of my happy places. And I always enjoy wherever my favorite barista is (our youngest son Jack).

Church is a happy place and church should be a happy place. Sunday should be the best day of the week because Sunday is not the “weekend,” Sunday is not the end of the week. Sunday is the first day of the week and we give the first part of the week to the Lord through Sunday worship. If we want the most out of life, if we want to enjoy life, if we want to bring glory to God, we need to be Matthew 6:33 Christians, “Seeking first the Kingdom of God.” One of the ways we do this is through obedience to Sunday worship through a local church. Sundays are for worship but for many Sunday morning is a Saturday night decision (He told me to tell you that).

Church should be a happy place because we get recharged as we hang out with people that are for us. These same people sharpen us, encourage us and speak much needed truth in love to us. Church is a place where we can be real, authentic and vulnerable. They say we make friends when we raise our hand and say, “You too?”

James 5:16 tells us we are supposed to confess our sins to one another. It feels good to share, doesn’t it? They say, “Confession is good for the soul.” It’s hard to live under the weight of sin, failure and false expectations. When we are with our church family it’s easier to stop living under the mask, acting like we are perfect and the fake life we have created on social media is real when it’s all made up.

I broke a water line while moving into the house we are currently living in while hooking up the washing machine a couple of weeks ago and you know what? I did not run for my phone to take a picture of the water exploding from behind the Maytag while I was running out to the curb to s hut o ff t he w ater l ine. But while playing golf last week with my fancy saddle shoes bent over my yellow golf ball with my cool, mallet putter that I love so much I was all about it. Funny how that works. Sorry I digress but I think you got the point that one of the great things about church is we no longer have to play act.

Church is a happy place because it’s a safe place, a refuge and a family reunion in many ways. Church is not like family, church is family.

Church is a happy place because the church is all about Jesus. He’s the head of the church (Matthew 16:18), He’s busy working (John 5:17) and building his church. It brings a next level happiness into your life as you see what He is doing and how He moves and transforms people as they surrender to His perfect will. Who doesn’t want to have a front row seat to that?!

God is good, God is for us and God is not mad at us. I’m often reminded of that on Sunday mornings. They say too many of us are making mud pies in the gutter when we could be on holiday by the sea. I think that’s true so why would we ever want to skip gathering together and miss the blessing of the happiest place of all?

He asked me to ask you that.
