Whinstone, USA wants to lease four potrooms (the remaining two potlines) at Alcoa for GMO Registry to begin another cryptocurrency mining operation.

Company representatives will be back next week to finalize the lease agreement with Alcoa and the new operation could be up and running within 60 days.

Plan is to start the operation with about 150,000 “antminers” and create about 50 new jobs. Over the next four years the operation could include as many as 500,000 antminers and create over 200 new jobs.

We are all working together to get this done. This new company sought out Rock-dale because they heard of the large supply of electricity at Alcoa. They sent a representative to a Rockdale City Council meeting last Monday, who sat next to MDD President Dr. John Weed.

Dr. Weed visited with them and sent them to Rock-dale City Manager, Chris Whittaker, who assisted and sent then to Kara Clore, MDD executive director.

She took them to the site, explained what was available and arranged a meeting with Alcoa representatives.

Rockdale Mayor John King was involved throughout and contacted me so I could meet with these representatives. Because we are working together this new deal is going to happen.

We are now doing much more than talk. There is truly a cooperative effort to get new business and keep what we have.

The Rockdale MDD, the Cameron Industrial Foundation, the Cameron and Rockdale Chambers of Commerce, the Cameron and Rockdale Lions and Rotary are all cooperating.

On Aug. 9, we will see more cooperation. The two communities, all of our fine service organizations and elected representatives will come together in a show of mutual support in the form of a football banquet to help get us past the age old Rockdale–Cameron dividing line. As we are all the same on both sides of the river, we must realize that a division of the two communities is not and has never been in our best interest.

Our cooperation is creating a positive, friendly economic environment and new business is coming and will continue to come. New business will come where it is wanted and where there are workers and space. We have that and much more, such as electricity and water.

Thanks to all of you who are working so hard to make economic progress a reality. Remember we have a large solar farm in Burlington, a possible hemp processing plant, a possible packaging facility and much more that is coming soon.
