We want everyone in Milam County to get vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus. We are working hard to get the vaccine administered, just as quickly as we get it from the state.

We got our first 100 doses on Dec. 29 and since then we have received a total of 700 doses. In fact, we got our last 200 doses on Monday, Jan. 11. Those 200 doses will be administered on Thursday, Jan. 14 at the former Rockdale Medical Clinic. If we get more doses, we will administer those this Saturday, Jan. 16.

To get vaccinated, please call our main number at 254-697-7000 or email aguillen@gmail.com and we will put you on a waiting list. When your turn arrives, we will call and schedule your appointment.

As of Tuesday afternoon, we had about 1,300 individuals on the waiting list. While this seems like a lot, remember that we will have vaccinated 700 plus individuals in the last 14 days. We will get this done and any Milam County resident who wants a shot will get a shot.

The vaccination clinic in Rockdale last Saturday was a tremendous success. Ten nurses and numerous others volunteered their time for our first large vaccination clinic. We vaccinated 226 people in 5 hours.

Thanks to Nurse Vicky Moore, Nurse Esmeralda Ruelas-Olivares, Nurse Leslie Watkins, Nurse Pat Sheguit, Nurse Troy White, Nurse Wes VanHorn, Nurse Pam Brashear, Nurse Charlotte Keen, Nurse Renee Wright, Nurse Billie Williams, Denise Wallace, Lynn Young, Amy Guillen, Robert Kirkpatrick, Bryan Burns and Michelle Morgan.

We also thank Troy Zinn and Karolyn Puccio of the Rockdale Hospital District for allowing us to use the clinic. This is the best place in the county for the vaccinations as there is room and privacy for the shots.

We are administering the Moderna drug which is a two-shot vaccine, meaning that a booster shot is necessary 28 days after the first shot. Those who are vaccinated will be given a card depicting the type of vaccine they received and when the booster shot can be given. It is imperative that both shots be received.

Further, the drug cannot be intermingled with another drug, such as the Pfizer vaccine.

The vaccine will be provided at no cost, although there may be an administration charge for those with insurance.

We thank everyone for their patience, and know that we will get this done. We will get more and more of the vaccine as we go forward. While there is no funding for the vaccination process, we are going to find a way to get this done, so that we can all be safe in Milam County.
