It is with conviction in my heart that I am writing to you, in hopes that it will raise an awareness of safety in our community.
I sit on my porch in the early morning hours, between 7 and 8 a.m., before school begins in Milano, as well as in the afternoon hours, between 3:15 and 4 p.m., school dismissal time.
As I sit and watch the traffic pass by, in front of our residence, I am simply amazed at the lack of driving safety and carelessness that occurs on these small and narrow roads en route to the Milano schools.
Within just the last three months, I have had the unfortunate opportunity to witness on three different occasions, closely missed accidents at the intersection of West Ave. B and high school road.
I have observed this road being used as nothing more than a race track, from one corner stop sign to the next.
I have witnessed ignoring of the road signs that are in place. Stop signs and speed limit signs are placed there for a reason, not to ignore and go about speeding on down the road.
These roads are not intended to test drive the performance and/or speed of your vehicles. Nor are they for spinning tires, sending rocks and debris hurling into the air.
Individuals on cell phones paying no attention to the situation around them, in front of them or behind them, recklessly passing by at higher than normal speeds.
There are children and young adults that walk these very roads, to and from school.
There are also several individuals within the community who attempt to enjoy their daily walks/ strolls on these roads, at any given time of the day.
God forbid something tragic would have to occur before someone begins to pay attention.
My intention for writing this is solely to raise awareness and safety.
It only takes a split second for something to happen. Life as we know it, can drastically change.
If not for the safety, protection and welfare of yourself and your own family/ friends, please consider the other lives you may endanger or even worse.
Value life. Consider the consequences of your actions.
Sincerely yours,
Janette Morgan
