FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE

I am going to talk a little about diabetes, so if you aren’t interested, please skip down. I know a lot of readers are also diabetic because you’ve told me since I’ve talked about my diagnosis.

I started on this “journey” two years ago this week. I started out with my A1C at 8.4. I was on Rybelsus pills for the first year and I weighed about 200 pounds. ‘After a whole year, my insurance company wanted a prior authorization to continue using it. The Rybelsus representative at CamRock Clinic happened to be there the day the insurance company asked for it and the rep sent them the information they wanted showing it was working. I had lost 10 pounds during that year.

They still denied it. The whole insurance racket needs a complete overhaul in my opinion. And their prices have gotten insanely ridiculous.

Then I started on Ozempic giving myself shots once a week. At first you start out with a small dose for a month and then a little bit higher dose for a while. I am now on the 1.0 dose and have been on that for six weeks. In that six weeks I have lost another 10 pounds. But I’m not taking it for weight loss, that’s just a nice side effect. I think this is the first medicine I’ve ever taken that has had a reasonable side effect instead of the usual suspects.

I had my A1C checked right after the holidays. I wanted my doctor, Terri Buchanan, to wait a while because I was a terrible diabetic from Thanksgiving through Christmas. She told me we may as well to get a realistic number. It was 6.9, which surprised me. I thought it would be higher. She always wants me to be under 7.0 and I was. If only just barely.

Many of you have told me about the Ozempic side effects but so far, I haven’t had any other than barfing occasionally in the morning, which happened more often with the Rybelsus.

I have only been so-so on going to the gym. I should do better than I do. I am curious to see my next A1C check though. -kwc Boy, did I have one heck of a Tuesday morning this week. When I left work on Monday, I had the entire front page all done and ready to go. Or so I thought.

Then on Monday night there was a murder in town and a bomb threat at the high school, so I ended up having to redo the front page entirely.

I am so sorry for all the McBrides and I still can’t believe it. Steph came into the office a lot because she enjoyed talking to Suzy since they worked together a long time ago at the hospital. She had been taking care of a lady recently, so I’d also see her behind the office at the post office from time to time.

Rest in peace, my friend.
