Both dogs got groomed on Monday at The Dogspaw’s new location in Lexington and everyone lived to tell the tale. Kallie will always hop into the car, but Flaco was very wary.

This fat guy had to chase him all over the yard and pick him up and put him in the car. He’s the almost still feral one.

When I got home late after the school board meeting, they were very excited to see me and they smelled so good. And they may have been excited because they could smell the new treats I got over he weekend.

Sue Brown told me that Flaco was scared of the water and the blow dryer but other than that he was okay. I was very surprised to hear that. He’s still shy about anything new.

They also got their nails clipped and that is a good thing because Flaco maimed Mom on her arm pretty badly last week. Not hospital badly, but it looked awful for a while. Luckily she’s a tough old broad. And I’ll get the Peggy Cooke “eyebrow” for saying so.

Noelia and I made our every-other-week foray to Costco and HEB over the weekend. I got the dog treats at Costco, as well as over $300 worth of things I desperately needed, not one of which except dog treats can I think of right now.

The drive over and back is always fun because we don’t often see each other during the week so we have lots of stories to catch up on.

We have a little bit of information on the front page for “Brett Fest,” which is a celebration of Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que’s three year anniversary in Rockdale.

He has a lot of his barbecue friends coming so we’ll get to taste lots of samples from all over.

He told me that it’s the vendor list that will be unusual for Rockdale. Lots of tasty treats that we don’t normally have around here. That list hasn’t been released as of press time, but as soon as I know something I will let you know. Sounds like it will be an exciting day in Rockdale on Sunday, October 24.

Tickets are on sale for $75 and can be purchased at eventbrite.com.

These are exciting times for growth in our town. I interviewed our new MDD Director of economic development, Jim Gibson, and he has some great experience bringing businesses to rural areas like ours. You can read that on the front page.

I think the city made a great choice in him and that he’ll do great things for our town.

Judge Steve Young is excited about the American Glove Company too. He’s been taking their representatives to meet people all over the county and showing them around.

The tax-abatement is county-related and the Chapter 313 paperwork is almost the same thing but has to do with the RISD. That paperwork goes to the Texas comptroller and then sent back here after approval.

A decision by the glove company will be made near the end of the year on whether they are coming here or going to Delaware. I know everyone who can is doing everything possible to make sure we are the chosen city.
