Here’s a list of who to thank for Rockdale’s beautiful Christmas decorations

We’ve heard from so many people about how great the downtown lights and decorations look that we wanted to remind everyone who is responsible for all the work.

Toward the end of 2023, Light Up Rockdale took off with a bang to get the city some Christmas decorations after not having any for three years because of both COVID and the TxDOT construction. The initiative went so well that $32,850 was raised.

Rockdale Downtown Association, the City of Rockdale, the Rockdale MDD and an anonymous donor got the ball rolling with donations of $5,000 each, and the remainder was through the generosity of 77 CrossRoads Storage LLC, ABC Technologies, Attorneys of Texas Title, Billy Buck’s Deer & Exotic Sales LLC, Climate Control AC & Heating, Danna Strait, Hodge Podge Etc., Original B Brothers LLC, Rockdale Rotary Club, Realtor Shannon Kornegay, Mike and Shirley Walker, the Kay Theater Foundation, Vision Historic Preservation Foundation, Manuel Imports and The Office Steakhouse.

This year the City of Rockdale put in another $30,000 through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds. City of Rockdale employees hung the garland at Main Street and Cameron Avenue with hep from the Rockdale Police Department and the Milam County Sheriff’s Office.

The Rockdale Downtown Association, especially board members Kara Clore and Kyle Walker, and other volunteers put up the new decorations this year. Shout outs go to Bud Houston, Noack Sand and Gravel and Perry & Perry Builders for use of their equipment. RIOT employees decorated the library and Citizen’s National Bank and Windstar Roofing did the East Bell Taphouse lights.

The Olivares family, Jose, Esmeralda, Luke and Matteo, volunteered to add the red bows around town.

Everything looks great and these people and businesses made it happen. Be sure to thank them when you see them. —K.W.C.
