Dear editor,
Mike Brown’s editorial in last week’s Rockdale Reporter “Our turn when?” echoes my sentiments, and probably the rest of Milam County’s residents, exactly.
Cameron will be the only one to benefit or use those facilities for “after-hour care.”
Who in Rockdale, Milano, Gause or Thorndale, in their right mind, would go to those facilities in Cameron?
Rockdale people could in a little over or a little under five minutes difference be at a hospital in Caldwell or Taylor for 24/7 emergency care.
Milano and Gause are as close or closer to the Caldwell hospital. Thorndale is much closer to the Taylor hospital. Why is Cameron getting two “after-hour care” facilities and Rockdale none?
Something is wrong with that equation. The statement that the Rockdale campus was not deemed secure enough for such a facility to be open after hours is a pretty lame excuse.
Like Mike said, Rockdale needs urgent care. I, for one, will refuse to go to Cameron when I can go to a hospital in Caldwell or Taylor in five minutes or less time than going to Cameron with probably much better care.
Thanks Mike for your most appropriate editorial and I would think it speaks for all the Rockdale residents and maybe a lot of the other county residents.
“You hit the nail on the head” as the old saying goes.
Appreciative,
Marie Gest
