He told me to tell you that
The Blonde and I had to go to Dallas last week to get the convertible serviced. Two-thousand dollars later we were back on the road. That’s another story but hey the sun was out and the top was down so we’ve gotten a jump on the ol’ summer tan.
A lot of life is perspective.
A trip to the big city is always welcomed in our house. Typically it means coffee and shopping.
Amazon Prime is great but sometimes it’s just nice to see and touch before you buy.
We stopped at Royal Blue Grocery in Highland Park Village and a lady named Mitzi waited on us.
She asked how we were doing so I returned the favor. Mitzi was doing, “Super fantastic!” I told her she was doing better than me and she said, “No I’m not. You’re doing good too, you have just forgotten how great life is!” She said, “That’s why I’m here to remind you.”
I thought about how Hebrews 13:2 tells us that we sometimes entertain angels. I felt like I was in the presence of the Lord and He was speaking directly to me. Hallelujah!
I tell you often I’m tired, old and cynical. Like all jobs the preaching gig is sometimes less than perfect. As a matter of fact I came into the office the day after the trip to Dallas to find out the two church secretaries had been challenging one another and the children’s director had to get in the middle to cool things off.
My point is Mitzi blessed my socks off. I’d like to carry her around in my pocket so when I’m having a bad day I could pull her out and say, “Mitzi, remind me again of how I’m doing?!”
Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired.” Nobody likes Debbie-Downer and a sad Christian seems to be an oxymoron.
At our church we say, “God is good all the time and all the time God is good.”
We just don’t say it, it’s true. Even in the valley of the shadow of death God is there. Romans 8:31 reminds us that God is for us and if God is for us who can be against us.
I agree with Mitzi. We are all doing “super fantastic.”
The fight between the two church secretaries is in many ways just another day in the office. I’m not justifying it but people are people.
John 10 says we have an enemy that likes to “steal, kill and destroy.” How many days a week do we lose because of worry or frustration.
Daily events that are not so great can take from us what Jesus called the “abundant life.” Mitzi called it the “super fantastic” life.
I’m a lot like that blind guy Jesus healed in John 9. They asked him what happened and he said he didn’t really know but what he did know was, “I was blind and now I can see.”
What I’m saying is I don’t know a lot. I don’t know what we will do with these two strong willed people but I know we serve a sovereign King who sits securely on His throne.
I know I can trust Him and I know the sun is going to come up tomorrow and the daily battle will start over.
I also know I’m not alone in the battle, God is with me supplying me all that I need to not only survive but to thrive.
Go ahead and enjoy the day, God likes you. That trouble you are experiencing is an opportunity to be faithful.
He told me to tell you that.
“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3 NIV)
