He told me to tell you that
There is data that shows most people believe in the existence of God. But if some are struggling all they have to do is look to Daylight Savings Time (longer days, yahoo!), Taylor red weenies, white bread, Dr Pepper, coffee (any kind of coffee) and chocolate.
Sometimes it’s not do we believe in God but rather what do we believe. It’s easy to take the good from God (Taylor weenies and Dr Pepper) but what about when He allows adversity in our lives. This is when we find out what our truth is and if it will hold up in the hard times?
I totally get why the disciples woke Jesus up during the storm and said, “Don’t you care if we drown? (Mark 4:38).” My experience is it seems like the God who never sleeps or slumbers (Psalm 121:4), sleeps and slumbers a lot. Okay, not really but I have found myself in the boat, in the storm, drowning and wondering where God is and what He’s doing.
Rather than asking, “Where’s God?” Maybe we need to ask, “What’s our truth?” Psalm 86:15 reminds me that, “God (is) merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” God likes me, He is for me and I can trust Him. That’s my truth.
I’ve had some stuff going on in my life for awhile now (18 months) and I’ve been praying a lot (it’s what I do, I’m a pastor). Begging is probably a better description of what I have been doing, begging for my request.
The thing about prayer that most people don’t understand is that the objective is not necessarily about us getting what we want as much as God getting what He wants from us. Finally, I came around and told God I was sorry and that really all I wanted was to hear His voice, “Speak, Lord, speak.”
The adversity is still there and maybe I should say anxiety but I don’t think for much longer. God is at work and my goal is to be faithful when life is confusing. See my truth is that God is good—all the time and so whatever happens is going to not only glorify Him but be the best for me (Romans 8:28).
