Mark your calendars because October 2 The Fall Music Festival makes its return to Wolf Park after a year off due to COVID. Look for an announcement of this year’s bands soon because our town’s Cassie Caffey is in top secret contract negotiations as we speak. Will your favorites make the list? Stay tuned.
If you’re a vendor, now is the time to get your booth space reserved. You can request a vendor packet from the Chamber of Commerce by calling 512-446- 2030 or by emailing the chamber Executive Director Denise Brock at info@rockdalechamber.com.
Attractions will include music, of course, as well as vendors of all kinds, food, beer, wiener dog races, kids activities, a washer tournament, a chili cookoff and a street dance. Sounds like a full day of fun for the whole family.

Another thing that didn’t happen in 2020 was The Reporter’s publishing of our FYI magazine, but I’m happy to report that it is making a comeback in 2021 and will soon be in your hands.
It’s going to be even bigger this time and will be full of useful information to keep handy.
FYI will come out in the paper, but you can find copies around town, especially when events like the Fall Music Festival are going on.

I did something kind of scary last Thursday. Insurance companies have started paying for lung scans for adults age 55 to 80 who have smoked for a long time like me. If anything is wrong they can catch it early, and if nothing is wrong I’ll have peace of mind. It’s pretty nice of them and, frankly, unexpected since insurance companies mostly seem to try to get out of paying for anything they possibly can.
For some reason I was very nervous about it the day before. Not about the procedure itself – it’s just a CAT scan - all I had to do was lie there while the machine did its thing. I think I was more nervous about the results.
I smoke a lot when I’m nervous or anxious about something, and I smoked an entire pack of cigarettes during work hours the day before the scan. And, no, the irony is not lost on me.
I was in and out of there in all of 15 minutes, but I felt such a sense of relief when it was over, and I’m not sure why. I guess I just had a good feeling about it after being so jittery the day before. And it turns out I was justified in feeling good about it. All is well and I am relieved.
