After Saturday night’s storm we went 22 hours without electricity. I don’t like cold weather, but Mom, Dad and I were thankful for it because it was cool inside the house.
Noelia had electricity at her house, so I took our wireless chargers over there since our phones were all we had to do. There were a lot of moments where one of them would shout, “I’m down to one percent!”
Dad had just about had enough on Sunday afternoon, so he called Oncor and gave them a piece of his mind.
At some point on Sunday Mom and Dad took Spencer Stevens his dinner and when they got back the lights finally came on about 6 p.m.
This is a first world problem, I know, but it was still inconvenient to be without power for that long.
—kwc— This weather has been super strange though. Noelia and I went to Hutto/Pflugerville on Saturday, and I just had shorts and a t-shirt on. I was sure wishing I had put on long pants and a hoodie by the time we got there.
It never rained on us that day — the storm happened after we got back — but we stopped to eat at The Texan Cafe and got hot meals to warm us up. I’m ready for summertime weather. —kwc— Our Sesquicentennial issue of the FYI will be coming out in the paper soon and it’s time to get excited. There is so much historical information about Rockdale’s early days as well as old photos and lots of great information including a calendar of events.
A big thank you to our advertisers who make this special keepsake possible and the ladies on the Sesquicentennial Committee who are responsible for the content. I really think you’re going to love it.
We are printing plenty of extras to have at all the events. —kwc— The good folks at Brookshire Bros. are holding a crawfish and shrimp fundraiser for Jerry Pulley who was the store manager here for many years. He is also a classmate of mine.
Jerry is, unfortunately, going through some health issues and the money raised will help with hospital bills and treatment.
This will take place at Brookshire’s on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. until they are sold out, so be sure to stop by for some delicious food and help Jerry get better!
—kwc— A boy recently passed his driving test and asked his father when he could use the car.
His father said, “You bring your grades up, study your bible and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.”
A few weeks later the father said, “You’ve brought your grades up, you’ve been studying your bible, but you haven’t cut your hair.”
The boy said, “In the bible Sampson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, even Jesus had long hair.”
His father said, “did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went?”
