I have a friend, Cathy, who keeps up with the number of steps she takes every day for health and weight loss purposes. My phone has one of those step-counting things built in so I decided to check it out and see where I stand. I’m averaging 6,500 steps per day.
But my stomach has gotten so incredibly fat over the past year that 6,500 steps isn’t cutting it. I have gained almost 30 pounds since I moved back to Rockdale and started eating Mom’s home cooking.
The other day I sat down in my chair and the button on my shorts popped off and hit the side of Dad’s truck. And I used to have to wear a belt with that particular pair of shorts because they would drop off me buttoned and zipped if I didn’t.
I’m not going to go on a diet—especially this time of year—so I’d better step up my steps since both the house and office are lousy with Halloween candy.
I saw something the other day that said “Does anyone else feel like Halloween is unnecessary this year? I’ve been wearing a mask and eating candy for seven months now, so I don’t think I need a day dedicated to it anymore.”
And for me, that’s the truth. And it’s not just the candy evidently.
There was a boo-boo in last week’s paper because some names got switched around in the fair coverage.
The information is correct in this week’s fair results, and The Reporter would like to congratulate Rockdale 4-H member James Bartsch for all his hard work in winning the junior reserve honor in ag mechanics! See all the fair results on page 5A.
Last year was my first Choo-Choo Chili at the Depot and I’m looking forward to it again this year. It will be held in a drive through fashion on Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chili with all the fixings and dessert are $10. Tickets can be purchased from any Rockdale Historical Society member and at the Chamber of Commerce office as well.
I’m almost sure I had more than one bowl last year because of my aforementioned overeating issues, but it sure was delicious. Here’s hoping we’ll have some cool chili weather that Saturday.
And speaking of Halloween candy, I know of several different places doing Trunk or Treat this Halloween and all will be on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The First Christian Church will have theirs from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the First Baptist church from 5-7 p.m., the Peace Lutheran Church is from 5-8 p.m. and the Murray Street Church of Christ will hold theirs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Rockdale Country Ford will be from noon-2 p.m.
And in Thorndale the Thorndale United Methodist Church will be held from 1-4 p.m. and right after that is Trunk or Treat on Main Street starting at 4 p.m.
In Gause the United Methodist Church and the Baptist Church will team up at the Methodist Church for Trunk or Treat from 4-6 p.m.
Be sure to take your little ghouls and goblins for a fun and safe Halloween.
