Weather permitting, the recrowning of The 1895's bell tower is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 at 1 p.m. There will be places to stand and watch across the street. Won't that be exciting? I'm so glad it's happening in time for all the sesquicentennial events. —kwc— When my memories come up on social media, I sometimes get a laugh, especially the ones during the pandemic because the best part of the whole thing was the silly and funny memes people shared.

The toilet paper fiasco, home schooling failures, how much we ate and ate and ate while we stayed home.

Dad wanted to go to the gym every day and 'old man coffee,' and Mom wanted to play bridge and go to her book club, but we had to have a sit down and discuss that. I certainly didn't want them catching it and I worked through the whole thing so I was afraid I would get it and bring it home to them.

At any rate they weren't happy they couldn't do the things they really like to do.

I would sometimes catch them trying to go places. Mom would say she was going to the grocery store, and I told her, “No ma'am, I will go to the grocery store.'

One day I came home for lunch and neither one of them was there and I was suspicious that they were out doing something they shouldn't be doing. So I texted them: Me: Just came home for lunch. What are y'all doing?

Mom: We're sulking. Mom: Walking. I laughed hard at that! I told them they could walk around the neighborhood all they wanted but not to stop and talk to anyone or get very close to anyone. That was one thing they enjoyed during that whole crazy time. —kwc— Guess what? Miss Gertharine Green is turning 106 on April 2 and her family is holding a party for her at her house at 440 East Third Street, also known as Gertharine Green Avenue, on Saturday, April 6 from noon to 2 p.m.

Choir members from area churches will be there to serenade her with beautiful music. According to her daughter, Mary Butler, the whole town is invited to help her celebrate. Imagine the changes she has seen around Rockdale at 106 years old. —kwc— Jubilee Days are coming up at Fair Park April 3 through 6 and there will be something for everyone there including a carnival and all kind of things for kids to do.

Wednesday and Thursday are family nights and there is no charge to get in. On Friday and Saturday children and senior citizens admission is $5 and adults $10. —kwc— The Rockdale Tiger Booster Club's fish fry dinner had to be rescheduled due to a conflict last Saturday, and will take place this Friday, March 20 at Caffey Corner starting at 11 a.m.

Also on Friday the Rockdale High School Class of 2027 will hold a bake sale in front of Walmart from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out. So go get a dessert for Easter. —kwc— MARC will hold an open house on Tuesday, April 16, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Come see how MARC operates with the money they receive every year from the annual MARC Ride (story on page 8A).

“We would like everyone to join us and learn more about our organization and the services provided at the center. Refreshments will be served,” said Ann King, president.
