FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE
Getting to see two historical events in the past several days was exciting to me. The re-crowning of the bell tower on The 1895 was so fun to watch. I have to admit I was a little scared for those workers on the roof as the tower was being craned in.
A big shout out to Lin Perry and his guys for making it look easy and entertaining us with their expertise. The crowds gathered across the street at Rockdale Signs & Photography was in a party atmosphere and everyone really enjoyed the show.
The eclipse on Monday was another event that I thoroughly enjoyed. I had ordered eclipse glasses for The Reporter Gang and mom and dad, and we all put them to use.
Mom and dad went to the Methodist Church’s parking lot and watched there. I think dad was over it by the time the sun was completely covered by the moon. I got a text from him asking how much longer it was going to last.
Mary Lou was at the watch party at Main Street Bookshop with a whole lot of other folks, and Shannon, Suzy and I were in front of The Reporter office looking. It was really pretty and I've enjoyed seeing the photos that everyone has taken, especially the ones from friends in Austin who saw the totality which we did not get to see in Rockdale.
As we were outside four of Rockdale's finest came outside of the police station across the street from us to watch the eclipse too. They all had their glasses on, but Suzy noticed that they looked like they had tin foil hats as well. I couldn’t see that far so I walked over and sure enough they had their “offi-cial” tin foil hats on. It was hilarious and they really got into the spirit of the event. —kwc— Don’t forget that the new community market is starting on Saturday at Cardinal Roofing from 8 a.m. to noon. This market replaces the one usually sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, who didn’t have the manpower to do it this year.
