I received two wonderful phone calls last Thursday. The first was from my friend, Carolyn Hafley, telling me she had seen a sure sign of spring on the road between Rockdale and Milano: Indian Paintbrushes.
She was excited about them and so was I. Spring can’t come quick enough for either Carolyn or me. I decided I was going to check them out for myself and get a photo at some point.
And while I was still feeling good after that call, my cell phone rang and I saw Milam County in capital letters scroll across the screen. Could this be the call I’d been waiting for?
It was. A very nice lady named Jodi Morgan was on the line and she asked me if I would be available to get my first vaccine on Friday at the old hospital.
To be clear: The new old hospital.
Yes I would be very happy to, Miss Jodi. I printed out the forms and filled them out immediately.
So spring is right around the corner and I’m halfway vaccinated. It was a very good week.
My Mom and Dad have had both their vaccines and I fared just as they did after getting mine. My arm hurt a little and I was kind of tired the following day. But that’s a small price to pay.
And I have a feeling I owe a debt of gratitude to Bell County for giving Milam County 1,000 vaccines last week, so thanks to them.
And those vaccines were procured by Judge Steve Young who was also at the new old hospital with County Sheriff Mike Clore, who was looking very dapper in his new sheriff duds.
And more vaccines are coming from other counties so be sure to call or email Amy Guillen at 254-697-7000 or aguillen@milamcounty.net to get on the list. My vaccine came up much more quickly than I had anticipated.
And it really is nice to see that plants and flowers are coming back after the snow and freezing temperatures. I noticed the other day that my friend and neighbor, Annette Stone, has azaleas in front of her house and they are full of beautiful pink blossoms. You should all do yourselves a favor by driving down the 1900 block of Yokley to see them.
Robbie Breithaupt has bluebonnets growing in her yard and they are starting to bloom, and Patty Wright Farrell has daffodils and narcissus blooming in hers. Our redbud is already blooming too.
Spring is always my favorite season of the year when I can finally take off my hoodie and put shorts on again. I’m not meant for the cold weather. Everything seems new and fresh every year when springtime rolls around.
It’s time to make a trip to Country Greenhouses in Lexington to stock up on the flowers and herbs. We lost most of the herbs from last year.
We put all the plants into the garage but some of them are not going to make it. So I might have to stock up on some potted plants too.
So go buy some new plants and get vaccinated and celebrate spring!
