I’m sure you’ve already noticed this, but Rockdale is in that scary, several-week period where everyone is being blinded when they drive east in the morning and west in the afternoon.
I almost ran over my neighbor, Sonny Lillard, the other day. And who would mow the entire town for free if I had done that? I have a feeling we would not get many applicants for that job posting.
So watch out for kids, people walking dogs and landscapers using blowers with noise-canceling headphones who can’t hear you coming anyway.
I think it’s much worse in the evening than in the morning. The last part of my drive home I go up a hill and can’t see anything and then down the same hill to my driveway totally blinded. It’s just crazy. But luckily it won’t last very long.
I’ve gotten lucky a couple of mornings with this fog.
Guess what kiddies? Although it seems too early to be talking about this, our Letters to Santa section will come out the week of Christmas but it has an early deadline so we can be sure Santa receives all the kid’s letters at the North Pole on time.
There will be a Santa Mailbox set up at the elementary schools in both Rockdale and Milano right after Thanksgiving and the teachers will facilitate the letter writing like they do every year.
I think this is my favorite section of the year. I love to read those letters. The deadline is Friday, Dec. 11.
Special shout out to Pat Voyles and Mary Honeycutt for facilitating this at both schools.
I want to give a another special shout out to my friend Rebecca Luckey.
Sunday before last I went out to take photos of the Trump parade and I thought I had gotten some great shots. I could not have been more wrong. They all turned out horribly.
I knew Rebecca had participated and asked if she took any photos that we could use in The Reporter.
She offered me her photos but then went one step further and hooked me up with James McQuinn, the organizer of the parade.
Then he, in turn, hooked me up with some beautiful shots taken by photographer Braden Wallis who saved the day. His photos were so good. I’m just sorry we didn’t have the space to use more of them.
What I didn’t realize at the time is that Braden is my cousin Brian Wallis’ son. So it was family who saved me.
The three of you saved the day and I appreciate you all!
If you’re hungry on Saturday you are in for a treat. And if you’re lazy like me you’ll appreciate that you can get some delicious food without even having to leave your car.
Both Choo-Choo Chili Express at the depot and the Knights of Columbus barbecue chicken dinner at the KC Hall start at 11 a.m. Both the chili dinners and the chicken dinners are $10.
Eat one for lunch and save one for dinner. That way you won’t have to go into the kitchen at all on Saturday.
Or, if you’re a big fatty like me, you can eat them both for lunch while they are still warm.
Let’s support both these organizations!
