Bienvenidos, wilkommen, and welcome,
B men, and welcome, When I first was told that I was going to be the salutatorian of the Rockdale High School class of 2022, the first question I asked was how long my speech had to be. Sadly, there was indeed a minimum, so bear with me as my original plan was to have the most short and sweet speech in the history of Rockdale High School.
Ron Swanson once said, “Well, I’m not normally one for speeches. So, goodbye.” But Ron Swanson’s dad wasn’t the principal, so I must continue. I have discovered that by using the syncopate typeface, I am able to write less words while meeting the requirements set onto my speech by said principal, so fasten your seatbelts.
Through many trials and tribulations over the last 13 years of our lives, from learning how to walk with tiger tales and bubbles to walking across the stage tiger tale and bubble free, we have had to overcome and persevere through many things, such as Snowmagedden and the infamous COVID quarantine/online learning fiasco. We have also had to endure a principal change, one of which I got to know very well, but that’s besides the point.
With all of this being said, I want to thank all the parents and families of students here, the teachers and coaches we have had from kindergarten through High School, the administrators, and the many people who have helped us get to this point.
Fortunately, I am already on page 2 of the 2 page requirement, so I will begin to wrap this up.
Master Oogway once said, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift…that’s why they call it the present.” Throughout your life and whatever your life may bring, remember to never take it for granted what you have and to make the most of whatever hand you are dealt. Using all of the experiences you have had in High School, I believe that y’all will prosper in whatever y’all choose to do.
As American humorist Art BuchWald once said, “I could have said something profound, but you would have forgotten it in 15 minutes - which is the afterlife of a graduation speech.” So with that being said, I bid the Rockdale High School class of 2022 farewell and the best of luck in all future endeavors.
And dad, my speech made it all the way to the top of page 3, so you’re welcome.
Adios, auf wiedersehen, and goodbye, to Rockdale High.
