Dear editor, Please add the Rockdale I&GN Depot Museum as another walkable place downtown. The depot was renovated through the personal dedication of the founders and the support of the community to regain its 1906 visage. It has taken a proud place in the roster of historically-recognized buildings featuring two of the nine historical markers in Rockdale.

In addition to restored train cars, it features a model railroad layout of 1920s Rockdale. The museum serves as the city’s weekend visitor center and a great place for our citizens to learn about not only how trains were an integral part of the development of our town but history of the town itself.

We also feature displays on mining, Alcoa and military history. Across the street from Wolf Park with the prominent red cupola, the Rockdale Historical Society holds events such as last month’s blacksmith demonstration and this month’s murder mystery dinner to educate and enthrall the community.

There will be special activities at the depot during December’s holiday market. You’ve seen us on city websites and in the brochures, but there’s nothing like experiencing it for yourself.

Come see us, we can’t wait to share the history and the fun.

Patricia Watson, secretary Rockdale Historical Society I&GN Depot Train Museum
