Dear editor, On Saturday, Oct. 26, we will be hosting our second Eastside Conversation at Moon Brew Coffee Co., 109 North Main Street. Like our initial event, the purpose of this time is to update residents on various matters related to city life. As an elected official, I believe in the importance of accountability and informing our eastside residents of matters that I have brought to council, as well as the many other concerns and issues that we are addressing.
This event will be structured and themed in a slightly different manner than our first conversation. During the first 30-45 minutes, with help from those who can attend: fellow council members, the mayor and city staff, I will share news and updates and entertain a few questions. Following this time, we will have a more personal segment when I am asking citizens to share ideas on how to make our community better. I am calling this time, “Create Your Community.”
Residents will have the opportunity to sign-up in 5–10-minute time increments to share their ideas with us, on strategies and actions that we could consider to make a better community. It is important that ideas be “fleshed-out” into specific rationale, cost and resource projections, and desired outcomes. This is your opportunity to be heard.
All conversations are expected to reflect respect by all parties and help facilitate understanding of the issues and limitations that may exist, while also allowing everyone to consider possibilities of what could be if resources and priorities can align to take action. All city residents are welcome to attend and participate. Coffee is on us!
Sincerely, Dave Melton Councilmember for the Eastside and the City of Rockdale
