Dear editor, Greetings to our Rockdale community! 2025 is the eleventh year for Rockdale Earth Day. Through the years, we have evolved from a once-a-year event to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, to events and educational efforts throughout the calendar year. We want everyone to be aware of key dates and plans for this year:
• For our Day of Community Service, each of the four Rockdale ISD campuses will be completing projects at their school properties. The folks at RIOT will be doing a project at a location to be announced. We are asking that any individual, group, or organization that plans on doing a service project, please send details to us at rockdaleearthday@ yahoo.com so that we might recognize your work.
• Junior High art students submitted poster designs for our 2025 contest, “Small Acts, Big Impact!”. They are currently on display at Moon Brew Coffee Co., 109 North Main Street. Drop by to see the great work done by our students and submit your vote for your favorite design.
• In April, the posters will transition to the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library, for a larger educational display that month.
• Rockdale Earth Day will host the First Friday Coffee at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library on Friday, April 4th.
• We will again be awarding the “Yard of the Month,” for the months of April, May, June, September and October. We are partnering again with the Giddings Nursery and Garden Center, to award a $50 gift card to the winning households for each of these months. Any household with a Rockdale mailing address can be nominated. Nominations must be received by the 22nd of the previous month. Therefore, nominations for the April award are due on Saturday, March 22 to our email address noted above.
• Lastly, we invite everyone to join us on the evening of Sunday, September 21, the International Day of Peace, for our 3rd Annual Night of Peace Celebration at Wolf Park. This year’s program will be a special jazz celebration that you won’t want to miss.
We are grateful for the many efforts made in our community to make Rockdale a better place to live, work and do business.
