Dear editor, The American Legion members of Post 358 held their monthly meeting May 5. We had a couple of guests. One was Luke Olivares, a Rockdale High School student. Luke shared with us some of the things that are going on in his life. He is very active in school activities and community service. Luke also shared with us his goal of attending The US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. We at the Legion appreciate Luke and his desire to serve our nation in uniform.
We were also blessed to have John Marshall and Deborah Cooper with Integrity Roofing & Construction LLC. They explained to us their desire to give back to the community. They told us about their 2025 Operation Give back program where they want to honor a veteran by replacing their roof. They left some applications for anyone who might be interested.
During our other business we were discussing that it was scholarship time and applications were coming in. We discussed the amount of the scholarship. It was at this time that Deborah and John offered to match our scholarship dollar for dollar. I can’t tell you how grateful we were for their generosity. God bless this organization.
While I’m at it, let me tell you that we are having a game night at The American Legion on FM 487 North. The next one is May 13 at 6 p.m., so come enjoy the fellowship and fun. We’ll have snacks and something to wash it down with. Come and see what the American Legion is all about.
