Thanks to the city for

YMCA at park’s pool

Dear editor:

I want to thank the City Council for hiring the Hut-to YMCA staff which was managed by John Ramirez.

He is an outstanding and caring professional in every way. I noticed his passion for children, swimming and safety.

As a former elementary school counselor of over 32 years, I am trained to be observant of children’s safety physically as well as emotionally.

Those virtues were evidenced in abundance by John and his caring staff.

The swimming lessons were outstanding and my grandchildren who had never taken swimming lessons improved dramatically over the eight lessons.

I also want to applaud the structure of the swimming lessons being extended over two weeks in 30 minute lessons .

This longer time of exposure improves mastery of the swimming objectives rather than the traditional one hour lesson over one week. The lessons were short, sweet and very effective.

Having a professional staff run the pool is evidenced by the strict rules (no favoritism), the attention of the life guards on the children and not their cell phones and also the neatness and clean appearance of the pool.

I can assure you my grandchildren will be taking swimming lessons again next year and hopefully they will once again be hosted by the Hutto YMCA and John Ramirez.
