Abandoned babies need ‘never happen again’
Dear editor:
Your story on Jessica Diehl (Aug, 29) was very moving. It’s one that need never be repeated.
In 1999, Texas passed the Save Haven Law, aka the Baby Moses Law.
If you have a newborn that you’re unable to care for, you can bring your baby to a designated safe place—a hospital, fire station, free-standing emergency centers or emergency medical services (EMS) station—with no questions asked.
The law gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant in a place where the child will receive medical care and be placed with an emergency provider. Obviously, a baby growing up with his or her own parents is the best option. But if you cannot there is no reason to ever abandon your child in an unsafe place!

Sincerely,
