Commissioners don’t set water usage rates
Dear editor,
In reference to the Post Oak Savannah reservoir that lies beneath us, and its regulations.
Myth: Milam County Commissioners Court sets water usage rates for the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD).
Fact: Milam commissioners do, in fact, appoint onehalf the members to that board, as does Burleson County. They work in unison with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and meet every five years to arrive at a usage rate that reaches “common ground.”
Question: Do these three entities (POSGCD, TWDB and TCEQ) submit proposed rates to our commissioners court for approval?
The answer is “no!”
