Thanks from Rockdale Christian Services
Dear editor,
This past year was quite challenging as the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in modified operating hours for Rockdale Christian Services (RCS) Food Pantry and Heavenly Treasures. Unfortunately, we had to modify our operating hours in order to accommodate reduced volunteer staff and state directed occupancy restrictions.
Even with the scheduling disruption coupled with financial challenges of the community, we did not experience a significant change in families served by the food pantry. This past year RCS Food Pantry served an average of 200 families (450 individuals) per month; a volume consistent with prior years.
Food assistance is made possible through many avenues: grants, community donations of money and food, Heavenly Treasures’ sales, and critical partnerships with Brookshire Brothers, Central Texas Food Bank of Austin, and Walmart. Most importantly, thousands of volunteer hours make this all possible.
Between food donations and direct purchase Rockdale Christian Services was able to distribute approximately 90,000 pounds (45 tons) of food this past year! This is all made possible through the generosity of our community, Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council No. 7014, and our above-mentioned partners.
In addition, we also co-sponsor the CTFB mobile pantry with Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council No. 7014. On average over 300 families were provided with 60 pounds of food at each distribution. Distribution is open to all and occurs the first and third Thursday of each month at the KC Hall from 9 to 11 a.m.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for their continued support, whether it be volunteer hours or donations of food, gently used household items, or monetary. Without each and every one of you our food ministry would not be possible.
