Hearing from the mayor-elect
Dear editor,
My thoughts as I reflect back on the past few weeks of the election:
The friendly folks that I have had the opportunity to meet who made me feel comfortable made all this are the most memorable. It’s a small chapter in my life as I’ll be 40 the day before I’m sworn in, but it’s definitely going to be the most challenging and rewarding opportunity in my life thus far.
We’re often faced with so many challenges in our daily lives, the question I keep getting is “what are you thinking?”
I believe in my heart that it’s time for change. We need to attract more small businesses to our town, take advantage of and capture more of an audience that will put Rockdale on a destination map. All while helping boost our local economy.
I have so many ideas, plans and more. I just need to build and surround myself around a team who has the same objectives and goals. Our City Council will dramatically change too, and we’ll have three new faces onboarding. I believe this will help us out on creative, pro-active energy as we move forward.
My final thought is Rockdale should be proud of John King and his nine years of dedicated service to this community. He has done much for Rockdale, past and present, and has set us up for great things to come.
His wife, Ann King, has also done tremendous things for Rockdale, especially on the volunteer side and what she has done for the MARC Center. Between the two, they have accomplished a lot.
The King Family is well known in Rockdale and deserve a lot of credit where credits is due. So, when you see them around town, shake their hands and tell them thank you. Rockdale would not be the same without them!
Thank You for your Service John and Ann King!
Brett Boren
Rockdale Mayor-Elect
