Dear editor, The saying, “it takes a village,” has been used so much in recent years, that perhaps it has become cliché, losing some of its profound truth. Virtually all of life reminds us that we live in community and in relationship with all that is around us. Therefore, a fair share of healthy skepticism is prudent when confronted with those who take a more individualistic approach in addressing the challenges which we confront.
Rockdale Earth Day is thankful for the collaborative spirit and actions behind almost everything we do in our community each year. The synthesizing of ideas and talents, the generosity of donors, the commitment of time and labor required to accomplish tasks, are all foundational to our success. In 2022, approximately 200 of our citizens participated in activities throughout the year to better our community through educational efforts, litter pickup, creating or enhancing landscapes, planting trees, and being stewards of our world.
Special thanks to the students, staff a nd administration of the Rockdale ISD, City Manager Barbara Holly, the Public Works Department, the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, and the many other individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations which partner with us each year.
On behalf of our committee members, Dell Perry- Giles, Monique Gebhart, Tatiana Olivares, Kyle Cooke, and Rey Mata, we thank the “Village of Rockdale” for a great year.
Sincerely, Dave Melton Rockdale Earth Day Chairperson If you would like to receive an electronic copy of our annual summation, reach out to us at rockdaleearthday@ yahoo.com.
