Dr. C.E. Wisecup, promoter of the Rockdale Golf Club, ask The Reporter to announce that the Fair Park links have been placed in playing condition at last, and that the first try-out of the game will be held Friday afternoon, beginning at 5 o’clock. The genial doctor has been handicapped in making ready the Fair Park golf course by an unusually wet winter and spring, but everything is now in readiness. All members of the Rockdale Golf Club cordially invited to participate in the opening of the course Friday.
Next Monday is San Jacinto Day, and a legal holiday. Rockdale will observe the day by closing of the business houses and the public school. Parties contemplating making any purchases would do well to lay in their supplies Saturday to last them over until Tuesday. In the afternoon there will be a baseball game at Fair Park between the high school teams of Cameron and Rockdale. This game should draw a big crowd, due to the holiday and the rivalry that has always existed between the two schools. Come out and see the game and root for the home team.
In this issue appears the annual financial statement of the City of Rockdale prepared by Mayor H.C. Meyer. This statement shows the city to be in a prosperous condition and will afford good reading the those of our citizens who are thoughtful enough to be interested in the affairs of our municipal government. The net worth of the city shows a handsome increase over the net worth one year ago, and a careful perusal of the statement will bring the conviction that the financial affairs of the city have been wisely and economically administered.
The Reporter would urge the non-homeowner in Rockdale to begin now making preparations for the owning of a home. Buy a lot. Do it now. Pay for it the best way you can. If not all cash, buy it on credit and pay it out. Later on, you can borrow money from the Rockdale Building & Loan Association and build a house on that lot. If you own your lot the balance will be easy. The Rockdale B&L is on its feet and going well. With approximately $500 coming in each month, quite a few houses may be erected each year.

The Cameo Building finally ran out of lives. Gloria Thrasher, owner of the downtown landmark at 113 E. Cameron Ave. (US 79), took out a demolition permit at City Hall, ending a 19-month saga with more stops and starts than 5 p.m. Austin traffic. “Demolition will begin as soon as the weather allows us to proceed,” Thrasher said.
