the Reporter is in receipt of the following statement from Milam County’s County Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. K.K. Robbins: An opportunity will be offered the boys and girls of the small high schools this spring to secure the same credit for the schoolwork as is now granted affiliated schools of the state. During the second week in May, county superintendents, principals of affiliated schools and others endorsed by the county superintendent will conduct examinations in the usual subjects now accredited to high schools. The paper will be graded by the High School division of the State Department of Education and credits sent to each students passing the examination in any subject. These units will have the same value as accredited units from any affiliated high school in the state and will be recognized by Texas colleges and universities, as well as by high schools.
Otto Timmerman, aged 33 years, a citizen of the Gay Hill community, died at the Cameron hospital last Friday morning from the effects of a fall received the previous day from an oil well derrick in the Tracy community.
During the congestion of traffic caused by the many automobiles at the Timmerman funeral at Bushdale Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Henry Strelsky and little girl were knocked down and run over by a car. Fortunately, no serious injuries were received by either.
Mrs. J.L. Coleman’s pretty home in Highland Park was the scene of a delightful party Tuesday afternoon when she entertained the San Souci Club with the ever-popular game of “42.” The prize for high score went to Mrs. H.O. Quebe, club member, and Mrs. H.C. Vance, guest. The host served a delicious salad course at the conclusion of a number of interesting games.

On-camera interviews with a group of Rockdale people were made here Friday as the first filming project on the documentary, “The Lost Southern World of George Sessions Perry.” Perry was a nationally known Rockdale author whose book, “Hold Autumn in your Hand,” won national book awards in 1941 and 1942. Rockdale people involved in the film interviews were B.B. Caraway, Mildred Baker, Dorthea Newton, Louise Sessions, Preston and Helen Perry, and W.H, Cooke. They reminisced the Rockdale of the 1930s and their friendship with Perry.

Rain and history poured down from the heavens Friday as a group of about 30 stood solemnly in a circle of rocks by the San Gabriel River. Mescalero Apache Chief Joseph Standing Bear Morales of Bandera conducting a ceremony asking “The Great Creator” to bless the land at Apache Pass. “When I first walked in here, I heard the spirits of my people loud and clear, like something pulling at me,” Standing Bear said. “It was very powerful.”

“I don’t think there’s another one like it anywhere!” Nobody in the crowd of 125 packing the MARC Center Sunday afternoon disagreed with Ann King, organization president, as she spoke briefly, commemorating its golden anniversary. MARC was founded Feb. 10, 1965, and the three “surviving members” of the group who gathered that evening in the city library were present Sunday.
