A large part of the merchandise stolen from the store of Scarbrough & Hicks Co., last Thursday morning, and told of in last week’s Reporter, was recovered Saturday. Small boys poking around in the city dump pile north of town discovered the goods stuffed in potato sacks and concealed under the mass of old tine and refuse. The goods were brought back to the store and found not to be damaged except for wrinkling of the silk dresses. A more careful check of the stock developed the fact that approximately %2,500 worth of goods were stolen, and the greater part of same were recovered. The articles recovered included about 70 ladies’ silk dresses. To date no arrests have been made, although several clues are being traced out.

Mrs. Lon Hudson was hostess to the Tuesday Bridge Club for its last meeting in February. The games began at three o’clock and at their conclusion Miss Eleanor Phillips held high score. She was awarded a lovely pair of hand-embroidered pillow cases. A delicious ice course was served by Mrs. Hudson and Misses Ruth and Edna Kirk.
Manager Matson of The Dixie Theater, beginning next Monday, will set aside three passes to the show each day to be given to the first three persons answering the telephone and informing him what the program is for that day at The Dixie. Mr. Matson will ring a certain phone number and ask that person if they read the Dixie ad in The Reporter. Does that person know what the program is for that day? If so, that person can call at the box office and get a free pass to the show. Three of these passes will be awarded each day.
40 YEARS AGO…
In school districts across the country, the race for computer technology is on, and Rockdale ISD is no exception. At the Rockdale High School campus, 12 student computer stations have been installed, completing the computer lab which began operation this fall with seven stations.
Billy Seale, head coach at Halletsville High School for the past nine years, is the new head coach/athletic director for the Rockdale district.
20 YEARS AGO…
Rockdale High School’s Golden Girls drill team won a Sweepstakes Award Friday and Saturday in Showmaker USA competition, held in San Antonio. Director Rosie Johnson said the Golden Girls also won a judge’s award for earning scores of 90 and above from all judges in all routines. Sweepstakes awards go to teams with Division 1 (Superior) ratings in at least three routines.

Rockdale’s hi s tor i c 67-year-old Kay Theater will dedicate its Recorded Texas History Landmark at 10 a.m. March 15. “This designation by the Texas Historical Commission is the highest honor conveyed by the commission on landmarks of special importance in Texas history,” Les Davenport, Kay Theater Foundation chair, said. The theater dates back to 1947 when E. L. Bryan and Foy Arrington started the business, named in honor of Arrington’s daughter, Katherine.
