Rockdale decided to enter the Brazos River Reclamation Association. The decision was reached at a meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms, which was attend by about 50 citizens of Rockdale, Cameron, Gause, San Gabriel and Tracy.

Mr. B. Ashby, manager of the Rockdale Motor Car Co., employed a man and a truck and hauled gravel from the Battle pit on Little River, a distance of nine miles, and graveled the street in front of his garage the full 50-foot width of the lot and about 30 feet across. When he got through, he found that he was out just $20, no more. This put an idea into his head, to-wit: Why not start a movement to get the property owners on certain residence streets to gravel the street on the basis of each citizen paying for the work done in front of his property halfway across the street.

Messrs. Rountree, Wallis, Swafford, Baldridge, Isaacs and Gentry returned from their big game hunt down on the border. Conn Isaacs was the “tenderfoot” of the party, and received all kinds of good advice on the down trip, but turned the joke on the “old heads” by killing the first deer. Furthermore, he fired but one shot to make the kill, and shot his buck squarely between the eyes, thus proving that he is not susceptible to “buck fever.” Bruce Gentry was the only other member of the part to ill a deer, the balance having hard luck.

Over $1,000 in cash and merchandise was taken from a Rockdale restaurant in a break-in and police and the Milam County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to investigate. The burglary was discovered when the morning cook arrived at Vada’s Restaurant, 1306 W. Cameron. “She found that our back door had been broken in, apparently with something like a crowbar,” restaurant owner Vada Coates said. That door had a double lock and an inside hasp and could only be opened from the inside.

The Omega Bell Ringers, Rockdale’s popular hand bell choir, was planning a trip to Washington, DC, this summer according to director Nona Maxwell. The Ringers were to perform in churches between Rockdale and Washington and would play in the National City Christian Church in the nation’s capital.

“Fabulous Francine,” that one-block street that becomes a Christmas wonderland year after year, thanks to a lot of hard-working neighbors, once again took top prize in the street category in Rockdale’s annual decorations contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

Tractors were the vehicle of choice for Milam County agriculture, so it was no surprise when Santa (Mark Newman) showed up on one in Milano’s Christmas parade. Santa was pulling the first place Milano United Methodist Church float.

A 23-year-old Rockdale man, identified as the driver of a car which led law enforcement officials on a chase Oct. 3 after a theft incident at Walmart, was indicted by a Milam County Grand Jury. Logan Dellerman was one of 40 persons indicted in a busy December session, according to Prosecutor Kerry Spears.

The faces may (or not) have been new but the issues remained the same as two incoming Texas legislators addressed the Rockdale civic and business community in a “networking luncheon” at the Patterson Center. Water and the LCRA’s potential purchase of Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations were the main topics of discussion as State Senator-elect Dr. Charles Schwertner and State Representative- Elect Dr. Marsha Farney addressed a crowd of about 40.
