Under the tutelage and supervision of Mrs. Hodges, wife of Supt. J.M. Hodges, pupils of the 10th and 11th grades of Rockdale High School presented a five-act play, “The Average Man,” at the high school auditorium, which was characterized by unusual talent on the part of the pupils participating. The stage settings and all minor details, as well as the work of the players, indicated a degree of excellent training not often found in public school theatrical attempts. Admission fee of 25 cents and 50 cents were charged, and a good house greeted the performance, the proceeds amounted to about $60, which went into the school library fund.
There was a change in the business lineup of Regal Rockdale scheduled for the new year—The Sanitary Grocery Store by H & L Hudson to D.M. Perry. Perry, and for the past four years had been connected with a wholesale grocery concern at Galveston. The firm he bought out was the oldest firm in Rockdale without a change in management or name.

Welcome to the Post-Newtown world. And it’s been a trying one for Rockdale Police and the Rockdale ISD so far. A plague of unfounded “social media” rumors relaying non-existent threats of shootings, bombings, even police actions and arrests, had descended on the schools and police in the wake of the horrific shootings in Connecticut. None of it was true but police and RISD security personnel checked out texts, posts and innuendos just the same, making for a hectic pre-holiday week.
