Rockdale contractors secured the contract for the new Thorndale State Bank building and were already on the job. W.H. Vesey, of Rockdale, who had the contract for the brick work on the new State Bank building, started a crew of men to work clearing away the debris preparatory for laying the brick of the new building. The work would be pushed with all possible speed to a final finish at the earliest date. Messrs. Harris & Copeland, of Rockdale, were to do the woodwork and the new building was expected to be ready for occupancy within about 30 days.
A charming hospitality of the past week was the Scrap Book Club party given by Mrs. O.K. Phillips. This already attractive home was beautifully decorated throughout with bluebonnets and golden California poppies. The tally pads were hand painted blue bonnet girls and table marks were blue bonnets. High and low cuts at each table were given beautiful candlesticks and hand-painted pots filled with bluebonnets and California poppies.
Fred H. Graves, cashier of Rockdale State Bank, was confined to his room as the result of an attack of acute indigestion which came on him suddenly while he was watching the ball game at Fair Park. So sudden was the attack that Mr. Graves fainted and was carried home in an unconscious condition and, for several hours, considered critically ill. The Reporter was more than glad to report, however, that he as able to sit up and he hoped to soon be out again. The esteem in which Mr. Graves was held by his fellow townsmen was amply demonstrated by the stream of anxious inquirers, the many visits to his bedside, and the beautiful flowers sent by those who believe in “Flowers for the Living.” Fred H. Graves was one of Rockdale’s most useful citizens; may he be given many more years of usefulness in promoting the interest of Regal Rockdale.
