American Legion Carlyle Post 358 was set to present Mrs. Byrd Greenwood, a dramatic reader of note, in a varied entertainment of readings on Nov. 20, at the City Hall Auditorium. Mrs. Greenwood came with the very best of recommendations and the boys of Carlyle Post solicited the cordial cooperation and patronage of the public.

The city council passed a new ordinance governing the running-at-large of cattle and horses in Rockdale. By the terms of the new law, the city policemen or any other office of the law who takes up and impounds stray stock would be allowed a fee of $2.50 for each animal so impounded. Heretofore the fee had been only $1, which amount was so small as to make the work of looking after stray stock unprofitable to the officers.

An informal dance was given at the home of Mrs. Laura Perry honoring her little guest, Miss Merle Griffi th, of Fort Worth. The lovely home was thrown open for dancing which the young people thoroughly enjoyed. A large punch bowl surrounded by roses was in the center of the dining table, where many gathered around between dances. The evening was enjoyed very much by all who were present.

It comes to the attention of The Reporter that next year—1924—would constitute Rockdale’s “golden anniversary.” The town would then have reached its 50th year of existence. We are wondering how the citizenship would react to a suggestion that steps be taken looking to a proper celebration of the anniversary? Why could we not have a “Rockdale Homecoming Week?” No town in Grand Old Texas has a more pronounced sentiment of community spirit than Regal Rockdale. Such a celebration would give full opportunity for the application of that spirit in a worthwhile cause. The Reporter advanced this suggestion for consideration of the Chamber of Commerce and the various clubs and societies of the city. It was not too early to be laying the plans if we were to have such a celebration.
