The biggest snowstorm in the history of the town was the portion of Rockdale this week. Old residents of this city are unanimous in the opinion that never before since the establishment of the town 50 years ago has an equal amount of snow fallen in the same length of time. Trouble started Sunday night with rain and a cold north wind. Early Monday morning the rain turned to sleet, and about 10 o’clock that morning snow began falling. The temperature was not very low, and the snow melted as fast as it fell for several hours, but as the day wore away snowfall became heavier, and the ground was covered in spite of the mud and slush. The snow fell furiously all night. Tuesday morning Rockdale awoke to find snow on the ground to a depth of at least four inches, while the wind caused the local electric light, telephone and telegraph systems were one big jumble of tangled wires.

The School Board has elected Mrs. C.M. Perry as music teacher for the Rockdale Public School, to succeed Miss Merle Lucas, who resigned to marry Dr. R.H. Harrison Jr. of Bryan. Mrs. Perry assumed her duties this week and is keeping the musical department of the school running in the even tenor of its way. She is recognized as one of the most talented musicians Rockdale has ever had.

The Reporter is requested by the ladies of the IOOF Cemetery Association to say that they will be glad to receive donations of shade or ornamental trees to be planted at the cemetery. Anyone interested in this cemetery who is willing to contribute any kind of trees will confer a favor by notifying Mrs. Hill Marshall, whose phone number is 160.

The big department store of Scarbrough & Hicks was entered early Thursday morning between the hours of two and three o’clock, and one of the boldest robberies in the history of Rockdale was perpetrated. Evidence shows that the burglar or burglars came down a rope and suspended a ladder through the skylight to the rear of the store, near the ready-to-wear department, where the most expensive articles were taken and the largest loss sustained.

A hero at age six. Jarred Gerren choked on a piece of baked potato in the Rockdale Elementary School cafeteria on Feb. 16 and couldn’t breathe. Juana Romo, daughter of Francisco and Catarina Romo, did the Heimlich Maneuver and may have saved Jared’s life. “Her cool just blows us away,” said Elementary Principal Gil Peyton. “Juana knew exactly what to do and did it just as perfectly as an adult could have.”
