In the election held last Saturday in the Rockdale Good Roads District (No. 10) on the proposition of issuing bonds in the sum of $75,000 for the principal purpose of building the Farrier Highway (editor's note: I believe this to be US 79. It also used to be called Highway No. 43) though the district, paralleling the I.G.N. railway the issue carried by a heavy majority throughout the district, the total vote being 641 for the bonds, and 62 against.
The Boy Scouts enjoyed a holiday bike and twilight steakfry on San Jacinto Day, with Scoutmaster E.A. Swafford in charge, and the scout commissioners H.C. Meyer, Ed Simms, I.P. Sessions and J.E. Cooke 'present and voting' during the refreshment hour. The scouts also enjoyed having Mrs. Meyer and Little Miss Fenora as special honored guests.
The Jolly Junior Workers of the Methodist Church Sunday school with Bo. Massey their teacher, Miss Melbert and Mrs. Herman Vogel as chaperones, enjoyed a delightful picnic on Friday afternoon. After much merriment over various games, a delicious lunch of sandwiches and cake was served.
The primary department will present a play, 'The Awakening of Spring,' at the high school auditorium May 9th at 8 o'clock p.m. The children will be in costume so as to represent birds, bees, butterflies and flowers. The May Queen, little Miss Dorothy Matson, will be crowned. The play will be a pretty affair, and no doubt all will enjoy it, so let's all go out and give the little folks a good audience to show to.
The Tiger track team, ac companied by H.B. Hughes, left for Austin this afternoon to attend the annual Interscholastic League Meet of the University of Texas. The Tigers will find competition at Austin far above anything they have yet encountered, and if the locals place at all they will be doing exceptionally well.

Accidental shooting has been ruled in the death of a four-year-old Rockdale boy Thursday. Scott Schlottman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schlottman was dead on arrival at 8:52 p.m. Thursday at Richards Memorial Hospital with a bullet wound in the abdomen. Police Chief Marshall Martin said the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the Schlottman home. 1200 Highland. 'The gun involved was a .243 caliber rifle which accidentally discharged,' Martin said.

Tree planting dedicates Wolf Park downtown. Rockdale now has a downtown park as members of the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Beautification Committee and Retired Senior Volunteer Program gathered Friday to dedicate Wolf Park. The site, across the street from the 1906 International and Great Northern depot once boasted Rockdale’s most lavish 1870s-era hotel, the Wolf Hotel.

Rockdale ISD school board members are preparing to hire a Pf lugerville administrator as the district’s new superintendent. The board has set a 6 p.m. Thursday session at the Central Administration Building to offer the position to lone finalist Denise Monzingo.
